- Boys' High School & College, Allahabad is founded.
- The Indian Police Act 1861 is passed and a force created to protect and perpetuate colonial rule in the country. Indian civil and criminal codes were enacted. (Lord Macaulay had drafted the Indian Penal Code in 1835).
